GLAAD works with Hollywood to shape transgender stories and help cast trans actors
In 2021, GLAAD in partnership with the documentary Disclosure on Netflix released an entertainment industry toolkit along with Sundance Film Institute and the International Documentary Association (IDA) to support authentic and accurate transgender stories. It includes a state of the industry overview, stories to seek and center, best practices for casting and finding transgender talent, questions to consider when starting a film or TV project, and additional materials for research and consultation. This Is Where We Go is by Amara J Brady (Last Ones First), Javier Rivera DeBruin (Luciérnagas), Gina Femia (Allond(r)a), and Nina Ki (Taemong (Birth Dream)), and directed by Tamilla Woodard (Where We Stand).
Developed with The Parsnip Ship's Radio Roots Writers Group, MCC's first commission takes a closer look at the different ways that theater can be created and produced. This Is Where We Go was inspired by the Octavia Butler quote from "Parable of the Sower."
